Acute Coronary Clot Formation at Stent Placement Site

ID: exh54905c
This stock medical exhibit shows acute coronary clot formation at a stent placement site in a series of illustrations. The first illustration shows an anterior view of the normal anatomy of the heart, including the aorta, superior vena cava, right coronary artery, pulmonary trunk, left main coronary artery and left anterior descending artery. The second illustration shows the initial condition of the artery, with platelets passing across the stent location through the bloodstream. The third illustration shows coagulation, in which platelets gather together to begin the formation of a clot. The fourth illustration shows the subsequent condition, in which a clot has formed within the stent and vessel, completely occluding blood flow.
