This stock medical exhibit shows the procedure for an anterior lumbar interbody fusion. First is shown the anterior abdominal incision and the retraction of the small intestine and colon, exposing the lumbosacral spine. Next, the harvesting of the bone graft from the iliac crest is depicted. Then, the removal of the L4-5 disc along with bone spurs to decompress the nerves. The third image demonstrates the drilling of the L4-5 space in preparation for fusion. The fourth graphic displays cages packed with bone grafts being placed into the L4-5 disc space. The final graphic indicates that the procedure is repeated at the L5-S1 level.
