Bowel Perforation with Enterocutaneous Fistula

ID: exh65795c
This medical exhibit features a cross sectional view of the female abdomen revealing the layers of the abdominal wall and the underlying abdominal organs. The previous incision is open to allow drainage but prior to the repair of the bowel. A perforated loop of bowel is adherent to the posterior aspect of the mesh with bowel contents spilling out into the region immediately surrounding the perforated bowel loop and flowing around the side of the mesh, soaking the anterior layer of the mesh and pooling in the anterior open wound. A large arrow illustrates the circuitous route of the fluid to establish the course of this fistula.
