ID: exh39103
This stock medical exhibit depicts an L5-S1 disc bulge in a series of magnetic resonance images (MRI) and illustrations. The first illustration is an MRI of a sagittal view of the lumbar spine. It shows a disc bulge at L5-S1 causing compression of the cauda equina of the spinal cord. The second illustration is the same MRI with an illustration over it to clarify the anatomy of the lumbar spine. The third illustration is an MRI of an axial (cross cut) view of the L5-S1 disc viewed from below. It shows desiccation of the L5-S1 disc, a tear in the annulus fibrosus, and a disc bulge compressing the nerve root. The fourth illustration is the same MRI with an illustration over it to clarify the anatomy of the L5-S1 disc.
