This stock medical exhibit depicts the progression of a traumatic amputation of the left thumb and its subsequent repair. The first image shows the post-accident condition, with the left thumb amputated at the level of the proximal phalanx. The second image depicts an intra-operative view of a skin flap and grafting procedure, in which a flap is made of skin from the index finger and tunneled beneath the skin to the amputation site. The third image shows an intra-operative view of a procedure in which the left great toe is transplanted onto the amputated thumb site. The fourth image shows an intra-operative view of a tendon release procedure.
